GARY — A disturbance outside a cell phone store across the street from the police station led to the arrest of a suspect in Wednesday’s homicide.
Carlos Minor, 32, could be charged this weekend in the shooting death of David A. Norwood, 28, found dead in the street in front of his Aetna home.
Police obtained a search warrant Friday at 549 Van Buren St., where Detective Cpl. Michael Barnes located the suspect’s blue SUV that morning.
Investigators say Minor and Norwood argued Wednesday morning, then Norwood was shot. Minor was considered a suspect early in the investigation.
On Thursday, Patrolmen Donte Manuel and Arron Allen went to a cell phone store at 1000 W. 5th Ave. after the business owner reported having problems with a customer. They recognized Minor and stopped him.
Police found two loaded magazines for semi-automatic weapons in Minor’s pockets, then found two handguns in the white Cadillac where he had been sitting.
The Lake County crime laboratory has the weapons and is processing evidence from the SUV and the house.
