A woman found dead in her Merrillville home Friday was stabbed, the Lake County coroner said, and her live-in boyfriend was found dead Friday night in a Melrose Park, Ill., motel.
Kimberly Louise Danielewicz, 40, was found dead Friday afternoon in the 1400 block of West 86th Avenue. Officers came to the home after responding to a welfare check.
Merrillville police labeled her death a homicide. The Lake County coroner said Danielewicz died after suffering multiple puncture wounds.
Her live-in boyfriend, James E. Bailey, was found dead Friday night in a Melrose Park, Ill., motel with several empty prescription bottles belonging to Danielewicz. The key to a Mazda was also in the room.
Bailey and Danielewicz’s 2008 Mazda Tribute was reported missing and possibly stolen on Friday. Police said they were concerned about Bailey’s welfare.
On Saturday, Merrillville detectives attended Bailey’s autopsy at the Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office in Chicago to confirm his identity. Bailey’s cause of death is awaiting toxicology results.
Danielewicz’s Facebook page listed her as a 1989 graduate of Thornridge High School in Dolton, Ill., and said she was employed by the U.S. Postal Service.
