GARY — An argument outside a Black Oak liquor store escalated to a shooting that left one man dead and a suspect in custody, police spokeswoman LaRia Crews said Thursday night.
Shortly before 5 p.m., witnesses reported gunfire outside Party Liquors at 25th Avenue and Burr Street.
The victim, Lawrence McIntosh, 28, of Gary, had been shot in the face. He died a short time later at the Methodist Hospitals Northlake campus.
Patrolman Anthony Boleware was in the area at the time of the shooting and saw the suspect speed away in a red Chevrolet Cavalier.
Boleware and Cpl. Don Rosenski chased the suspect east on 25th Avenue, then north on Clark Road to 4th Avenue. The suspect drove west until Burr Street, then turned south.
Back near the scene of the shooting, the driver crashed.
Police arrested Daryl Henderson, 26, of Gary, at the scene. He was taken to the hospital for treatment of injuries from the crash.
