A Crown Point man convicted of reckless homicide in a Thanksgiving morning stabbing on the square in downtown Crown Point faces a maximum eight-year sentence on Sept. 28.
Jeffrey Matthew Nemcek, 23, was convicted late Tuesday of the lesser offense after Lake Superior Court jurors acquitted him of murder and voluntary manslaughter in the death of Brandon Huseman, 26, of Crown Point. The jury also convicted Nemcek of possession of an illegal switchblade knife, a misdemeanor.
Nemcek told police he acted in self-defense after being punched by someone in Huseman’s group. Nemcek, like Huseman, had been out drinking with friends the night before the stabbing.
Huseman suffered severe internal injuries from the single stab wound to his abdomen and died after surgery.
