MERRILLVILLE — Utilities Inc. issued a boil advisory Saturday for a small number of homes near Taney Place and 76th Avenue after a 6-inch water main broke, according to a company representative.
A Utilities Inc. representative said the boil advisory affects homes on 76th Avenue, 76th Lane and Taney Place. Workers will place a notice on the doors of impacted homes.
There was no estimate for how long the repair to the 6-inch main will take or how long the boil advisory will last, according to the representative, who declined to comment further.
Merrillville Town Councilman Tom Goralczyk said there were no road closures around the area of the water main break in the 7600 block of Taney Place.
“The water goes off the curb probably 3 feet,” he said.
He said crews from Utilities Inc. were on site fixing the main.
