INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — Hoosiers are marking Sept. 11 with patriotic displays, remembering Indiana natives who died in the attacks, and donating supplies for soldiers serving overseas.
Jimmy Clark takes a day off work each Sept. 11 to wave a huge U.S. flag on an overpass over Interstate 465 on the Indianapolis northwest side. He told WTHR-TV the attacks strengthened the U.S. in a way that that it can’t be knocked down so easily again.
At the city’s Crown Hill Cemetery, the names of eight Hoosiers known to have died in the attacks at the World Trade Center and the Pentagon were read.
The Law Enforcement Firefighters Memorial of Allen County in Fort Wayne collected socks, toiletries, snacks and other items to be sent to U.S. troops serving in Afghanistan and Iraq.
