PORTAGE — The Northwestern Indiana Plan Commission is closing in on hiring a new executive director.
Ken Layton, chairman of the NIRPC board of directors search committee, told the executive board at its Thursday meeting that a job offer has been extended to one of the applicants.
He said the original field included 22 candidates. From there, six received interviews and two “superb” finalists emerged, he said.
The finalists were not identified.
NIRPC board attorney David Hollenbeck is negotiating the contract details with the candidate who’s expected to be introduced at the Oct. 18 NIRPC commission meeting.
Executive director John Swanson, who is retiring, agreed to stay on a short time into 2013 to aid in the transition.
