VALPARAISO — Police said they arrested a man who lost his dog, for “going about it the wrong way” in trying to get it back from the woman who found it.
Keith Rabbers, 24, of Andover Court Apartments, was arrested at about 2:10 p.m. Thursday for felony residential entry, and misdemeanor intimidation and disorderly conduct. After receiving a call from a 20-year-old woman who said an unknown man was threatening to break in her door, police said they found Rabbers yelling at the woman and with his foot blocking her from closing her door.
The woman, also a resident of the apartment complex, told police she found the dog, wearing a flea collar but no tags, wandering around the area Tuesday afternoon. She said she unsuccessfully asked nearby residents if they knew who owned the dog, then she took it into her home.
She had never met Rabbers before he arrived Thursday afternoon and began yelling that he wanted his dog back, and she said she did not know for certain the dog belonged to him.
After Rabbers was taken to the Porter County Jail, the dog was returned to his wife, police said.
