GARY — A 67-year-old Monticello man was found shot to death in a van early Friday in the 2400 block of Connecticut Street. The death has been ruled a homicide by the Lake County Coroner’s Office.
Maurice W. Baker, 67, of Monticello was discovered in the van after police responded to a call about a single shot fired in the area just before 1 a.m. Friday. At the time, the caller met with the officers and told them about a suspicious white van, according to information from the police.
Gary Police Department spokeswoman Detective Gabrielle King on Friday night said police had no suspect in custody and continued to investigate.
Inside the van police discovered Baker lying in a prone position and soaked with blood. The Lake County Coroner’s Office pronounced Baker dead at the scene at 1:50 a.m.
