Flaming torch juggling routine gets away from Chesterton man

Updated: October 8, 2012 9:58PM

CHESTERTON — A local juggler’s illuminating performance got away from him Saturday night.

Aaron Rossetti, 36, of Chesterton, was practicing his routine at Thomas Centennial Park, at Calumet Road and Broadway. At about 9:25 p.m., while he was twirling lit torches, a burning portion of one torch broke off and landed on a nearby table — on top of an open can of camping fuel, Rossetti told police.

His props on the table then caught fire and he threw them to the ground, accidentally causing fuel to spill onto the rest of his mostly plastic juggling equipment, which melted onto the park’s paving bricks.

Rossetti called 911, and the Chesterton Fire Department extinguished the fire.
