A 17-year-old Lake Central High School student was arrested for having a knife in his pocket Wednesday morning in St. John.
St. John Police Detective Steve Flores said police were called to the school around 9:39 a.m. after two boys got into a verbal altercation.
“One student had a knife in his pocket, and the other student noticed and told a teacher, who escorted him to the office, and police were called at that time,” Flores said.
“The student who had the knife didn’t every display, mention, or threaten anyone with the knife.”
Flores said the boy didn’t even realize that he had brought the knife to school.
The student was arrested and charged with possession of a knife on school property, which is a misdemeanor.
Lake Central Superintendent Larry Veracco did not want to comment on specifics of discipline measures the student is facing.
