GARY — Two shootings, one gang-related and one apparently accidental, left four people in the city wounded and recovering from injuries not serious enough to threaten their lives.
Officer L. Crews, public information officer for the Gary Police Department, said both shootings occurred mid-afternoon.
The first shooting was gang-related, Crews said. A 15-year-old boy and a young man were wounded in a home in the 3600 block of Monroe Street during a drive-by shooting. One of the injured was shot in the back and the other was shot in the arm, she said.
“It was gang-related. We have persons of interest (in this case),” Crews said.
The second shooting was believed to be accidental. The shooting occurred in a home in the 500 block of New Jersey Street. Initial reports indicated three individuals were shot, but it was later learned only two were injured. One individual was short in the arm, the second in the abdomen.
Crews said she did not have any details on how the second shooting occurred.
