A tractor-trailer loaded with scaffolding rolled over on Interstate 80 westbound at the 15.4 mile marker just east of Ripley Street, shutting down traffic Tuesday morning.

According to Indiana State Police, about 11:30 a.m. a 1995 Freightliner pulling a flat-bed trailer was entering I-80 westbound from the Indiana Toll Road exit ramp when it took the curve too fast. This caused its load of scaffolding to shift and roll over onto the driver’s side. The scaffolding broke loose and was strewn across all westbound lanes of traffic.

The driver, Richard Nelson, 49 of Jordan, Minn., was not injured. The rig was owned by Joel Fries of Prior Lake, Minn., and was coming from Oregon, Ohio, on the way to Shakopee, Minn.

Nelson was cited for driving too fast to avoid a collision.

All lanes were reopened by 3 p.m.
