Smoke Shop customer takes donation jar for sick boy

Crown Point – Police are looking for help identifying a man who stole a donation container for a 10-year-old cancer patient Monday from The Smoke Shop. Sgt. Norman Isaacs with the Crown Point Police is looking for help identifying the subject who was captured on surveillance video coming into the store at 115 N. Main St. at 7:55 p.m. According to Isaacs, the suspect entered the store and distracted the clerk giving him the opportunity to pick up the donation container for Austin Wielgos of Kentland who is fighting Hodgkins Lymphoma. The assailant left the store with the container and an undetermined amount of money. Wielgos lives in Kentland with his family, mom and dad Chrissie and Eric and his younger brother Tyler. He is a student at South Newton Grade School and enjoys sports. The youngster was diagnosed with Hodgkins lymphoma in July and has been receiving chemotherapy treatment at Riley Hospital for Children in Indianapolis. Donations were being collected to assist with the rising hospital bills. According to Isaacs, the suspect entered the store and distracted the clerk giving him the opportunity to pick up the donation container for Austin Wielgos, who is fighting Hodgkin’s lymphoma. The assailant left the store with the container and an undetermined amount of money.
Wielgos lives in Kentland with his family, mom and dad Chrissie and Eric and his younger brother Tyler. He is a student at South Newton Grade School and enjoys sports.
