Indiana voters have many options for president

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — Indiana voters will see three presidential candidates on their ballots, although their choices go far beyond Democrat Barack Obama, Republican Mitt Romney and Libertarian Gary Johnson.

Sixteen write-in candidates have filed with Indiana election officials. Those include Green Party candidate Jill Stein and former Virginia Congressman Virgil Goode, who’s a former Republican running as the Constitution Party nominee.

Such candidates have typically attracted only handfuls of voters to write in their names on the election ballots.

The recent high-water mark for a write-in candidate in Indiana came in 2000 when Ralph Nader was the Green Party candidate. He received about 18,500 votes, although that was less than 1 percent of the state’s votes for president.
