GARY — Getting arrested in Gary during the holiday season could be more costly for those suspected of drunken driving or firing a weapon into the air.
Gary City Court Judge Deidre Monroe announced changes in the bond schedule beginning Friday, Dec. 7 and continuing through Saturday, Jan. 5.
During that time period, anyone arrested and charged with misdemeanor criminal recklessness or operating while intoxicated will be held on $1,500 cash bond or $15,000 surety, the judge said.
Monroe increases bond amounts for the Christmas and New Year holidays every year in an effort to discourage people from committing these crimes.
