Hammond man, 20, dies after Chicago shooting

An Hammond 20-year-old who was shot in the head while riding in a car early Saturday in the South Chicago neighborhood has died.
Hakeem Walton, 20, of the 1100 block of 170th Place in Hammond, was pronounced dead at 6:35 p.m. Saturday at Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, Ill., according to the Cook County Medical Examiner’s office.
Police say Walton was in the back seat of a car in the 2700 block of East 84th Street when gunfire rang out and the back window of the vehicle shattered about 2:15 a.m.
When the other passengers turned to Walton, they saw he was shot in the back of the head, they told police.
The driver of the vehicle took Walton to Advocate Trinity Hospital, where he was listed in critical condition, police said. He was later transferred to Christ Hospital, where he died.
No one is in custody as Area South detectives continue to investigate.
