SOUTH HAVEN -- A South Haven resident’s dogs cornered a man at 1:30 a.m. Friday when he entered their owner’s garage in the 600 block of Oxbow Road. Still, Kristopher Peyton, 20, also of South Haven, refused to cooperate until an officer stunned him with a taser, police said.

According to the police report, the 54-year-old resident was awakened by his dogs’ barking and saw they a man in a dark sweatshirt, later identified as Peyton, cornered in the yard. While the victim was on the phone with police, Peyton entered the garage and, once he knew he had been seen, crawled back out through the dog door. Although he lost his shoes in the process, he climbed fences and ran through several backyards to try to evade arriving police officers. He was found under a bush in the 600 block of Oswego Road.

Police said Peyton gave inconsistent explanations for why he was in the neighborhood and arrested him for felony residential entry and an assortment of misdemeanor charges: resisting law enforcement, criminal trespass, underage drinking and on a warrant for criminal mischief.
