GARY — A hostage situation lasting about four hours Thursday night ended with the man releasing his four hostages and turning himself in to police. There were no injuries.
Police received information that Marcus Flanagan, 18, who was wanted on a murder charge in Hammond, was at a residence near 24th Avenue and Fairbanks Street, Lake County Sheriff John Buncich said. When police approached around 6:45 p.m., Flanagan held four hostages in the residence.
“We received a tip that he was at that residence,” Buncich said. “That’s when the situation ensued.”
Hammond police called in Lake County’s command team. The suspect released two hostages, then hours later released two more hostages before turning himself in around 10:40 p.m. Hammond authorities took Flanagan into custody.“It turned out good,” Buncich said. “The officers are safe, and there were no other injuries.”
Gary Police Department also assisted with the arrest.
