GARY — Deshalone Williams, 18, the second victim shot Monday night by a man who asked for a ride, died late Tuesday night.
Williams was driving his friend Terrell Frazier, 21, about 10 p.m. when they stopped at a gas station at 15th Avenue and Clark Road.
There, witnesses said, Williams spoke to a man and shook his hand, then apparently agreed to give him a ride.
After traveling a few blocks north on Clark Road, the gunman asked to get out of the car. He shot both Frazier and Williams in the head.
Frazier died about 6:40 a.m. Tuesday at the Methodist Hospitals Northlake campus.
Williams was pronounced dead there at 11:10 p.m. Tuesday, a spokesman for the Lake County coroner said.
Detective Cpl. James Nielsen is investigating the two homicides. Anyone with information can call him at 881-4754.
Williams’ death brings this year’s homicide total to three, the same number recorded on this date last year.
