Crown Point man charged with having child porn

Updated: March 10, 2013 6:47AM

A Crown Point man told Homeland Security agents he’s collected child pornography for nine years, according to a probable cause affidavit filed Friday in U.S. District Court in Hammond.

Joshua Alexander Atwood faces charges of receiving child pornography images.

The affidavit says a special agent with Homeland Security found a pornographic image of a girl 4 to 6 years old being traded online. The picture was tracked to an Internet address given to a home in Crown Point.

Homeland Security special agents went to the house on Friday with a search warrant and found Atwood. He told them he’s collected the images since about 2004 of children anywhere from babies to 17 years old, although he prefers images of girls 11 to 12.

Atwood said he knew he was sharing the pictures online with other users on a peer-to-peer network but that he had recently deleted some images because he felt guilty after looking at them.

He also took a computer tower to a local church and asked that the church store it; the computer is still there.

However, Atwood said he continued to download child pornography images despite his guilt and does so every day.

Atwood, who was arrested Friday, was ordered held without bond pending a detention and probable cause hearing set for Wednesday morning.
