Notre Dame tuition rises 4 percent

Students who are accepted to attend the University of Notre Dame may need the luck of a luprechaun to pay for it in the 2013-14 academic year.
The University of Notre Dame is raising tuition nearly 4 percent for undergraduates for a fourth straight year.
The school said this week the cost of tuition for the 2013-14 academic year will be nearly $45,000. With average room and board rates of $12,500, total student charges will average more than $57,000.
Notre Dame’s president, Rev. John Jenkins, tells parents in a letter that new resources will help the school grow in areas such as internships, study abroad programs and undergraduate research. He also writes that the university would continue its efforts in pursuit of excellence.
Those looking for a bargain in college tuition in Northwest Indiana would do well to stay closer to home, according to Collegestats.org.
In a listing of Indiana college tuition costs, Indiana University Northwest’s annual average for a full-time student checked in at $5,398.
Purdue University Calumet and Purdue North Central were close at $5,757 and $5,817, respectively.
For low-cost tuition at a residential campus, tuition at Indiana State University in Terre Haute is $6,812, according to Collegestats. Ball State, Purdue and Indiana University in Bloomington fall between $7,212 and $7,837.
On the Notre Dame end of the scale, Butler in Indianapolis lands at $26,806, while Valparaiso University registers at $25,200.
