Already convicted of road rage shooting, man admits to Gary murder

A Michigan City man serving a 20-year sentence for a 2011 road rage shooting on the Borman Expressway has pleaded guilty to murder in a Gary shooting.
Aaron Di-Shon Windom, 27, admitted he shot Deandre Wilson on Feb. 19, 2011 at a residence in the 4300 block of West 23rd Avenue in Gary. Wilson, who was shot in the face, died at the scene.
Windom’s plea was submitted to Lake Superior Court Judge Thomas Stefaniak Jr. on Friday, three days before Windom’s murder trial was set to begin.
Under terms of the plea agreement, Windom faces 45 to 50 years. Deputy prosecutor Monica Rogina and defense attorney Robert Varga will argue an appropriate sentence on April 17.
Two counts of attempted murder, two counts of battery, attempted battery and an habitual offender enhancement that would have added 30 years to Windom’s sentence will be dismissed.
Windom was sentenced last year in the road rage incident following his conviction for two counts of attempted battery and three counts of criminal recklessness in the incident along the expressway in Lake Station.
Two days before Wilson’s murder, Windom fired at a family, including a 2-month-old. Windom flashed his bright lights to get the car to move, then pulled alongside the car, rolled down the window and fired several shots. The family’s vehicle had five or six bullet holes but no one was injured.
