CHESTERTON — David Pruis has been promoted to superintendent of the Duneland School Corp., succeeding Superintendent Dirk Baer who is retiring at the end of the school year.
The School Board appointed Pruis, who’s assistant superintendent for operations and human relations, at Thursday’s board meeting.
Pruis came to Duneland 10 years ago from Hamilton Community School Corp. in Hamilton where he served as superintendent from 1999 to 2003. He was also superintendent at the Union-North United School Corp. in Lakeville from 1987 to 1994. He received his doctorate degree from Ball State University.
Board President Mike Trout said the board wanted a seamless transition and Pruis is respected among other building administrators.
“We could go outside and bring someone new in but we felt with Dr. Pruis, we know who we have,” said Trout.
He said the board extended Pruis a three-contract and terms will be detailed at an upcoming public hearing in accordance with a new state law governing the hiring of superintendents.
