GARY — One man is dead and another man is in very critical condition after a Sunday afternoon shooting in the Tolleston neighborhood.
Gary Police Chief Wade Ingram said police received a call of shots fired in the 1300 block of Ellsworth Place around 3:57 p.m. One man was found alive in the street in front of 2868 W. 13th Ave., while police found the dead man between shrubbery and a fence that adjoins two houses on street. Ingram said the first man was in very critical condition at Methodist Hospital Northlake. The second man likely ran behind the shrubs after he was shot, Ingram said.
Ingram said both men appear to be young, but there are no witnesses or information on the victims’ identities at this time. Police were in the process of going door to door in the neighborhood to try and gain some more information on the case.
Police tape stretched from the front yards of two houses on the north side of 13th Avenue across the street to the side yard of an apartment building as investigators from the Lake County Sheriff’s Department and Gary Police Department combed the premises for evidence.
Anyone with information about the crime can call Detective Lorenzo Davis at 881-1347 or the police department’s anonymous crime tip hot line at 1 (866) 274-6347.
