GARY — A missing security officer’s gun led Lew Wallace STEM Academy officials to lock down school for about 20 minutes Thursday morning.
Gary Community School Corp. spokeswoman Charmella Greer said a fight erupted between high school girls. Security officers broke up the fight.
Meanwhile, a security officer in another area of the school realized he didn’t have his gun. He reported it to Principal LaTanza Boarden who ordered the school on lockdown.
Greer said the missing gun wasn’t connected to the fight.
Greer said the officer went home and found his gun and returned to school. Boarden canceled the lockdown at that time, Greer said.
