VALPARAISO -- The father of convicted murderer Dustin McCowan won’t be charged with any criminal offenses, the Porter County Sheriff’s department announced Friday morning.

Porter County Sheriff’s Detective Jeff Biggs had previously announced after McCowan’s trial that the department was investigating Elliot McCowan -- a Crown Point police officer -- for any role he had in the murder of 19-year-old Amanda Bach of Portage or in covering it up.

“There will be no charges filed against Elliot Mccowan at this time. That could change if any new information surfaces. If we are given any new information, that may change,” Sheriff’s spokesman Sgt. Larry LaFlower said.

Dustin McCowan, 20, received a 60-year sentence on March 28. A jury found him guilty of murder Feb. 26 after a four-week trial.
