A joint failure on the Indiana Toll Road over Broadway means one eastbound lane will remain closed until Sunday evening.
Officials also will close the entrance ramp from Broadway to the eastbound Toll Road starting 4 a.m. Saturday so that drivers don’t drive on the affected far right eastbound lane, said Amber Kettring, public relations manager for the Toll Road.
Toll Road employees first noticed the joint failure Thursday and immediately sent crews out to repair it, Kettring said.
They closed the far right lane Thursday night and tried to fix it by Friday morning but were unsuccessful. They then decided to keep it closed until Sunday evening.
The repair, which is taking place where the Toll Road crosses over Broadway, also is where vehicles coming on from Broadway would enter, so officials closed the ramp, too.
Kettring said the joint is the diagonal line that connects the bridge pieces. When it fails, it creates a crack in the road. She said the issue doesn’t create a safety problem for vehicles driving on the interstate, however.
“Once it’s fixed, it’s fixed,” she said.
