GARY — Bryan Taylor’s family is devastated by his death.
Taylor, 22, was shot to death late Wednesday night outside the More 4 Less Corner store.
He leaves behind two sons, ages 1 and 5.
“It’s a severe loss to us,” said his cousin, Mary Walker. “Seven years ago we lost another cousin.”
Walker said the family is counting on police investigators to follow the leads they get and find out why Taylor was killed.
“No one knows the true story,” Walker said.
She encouraged witnesses to come forward and tell police what they know.
“He was turning his life around,” Walker said. Taylor was recently released from federal prison on a weapons charge and was on court-ordered supervision.
Taylor, of 4029 Massachusetts St., was pronounced dead outside the convenience store at 719 W. 45th Ave. about midnight.
Police received reports of gunfire in the area about 11 p.m., then learned of a gunshot victim.
Several other locations in Glen Park experienced shooting before and after the homicide, but police don’t believe the other shots were connected with Taylor’s death.
Detective James Bond arrived on the scene and recognized Taylor from previous encounters, police spokeswoman Cpl. Gabrielle King said.
Investigators declined to speculate on a motive for the slaying, saying they were following some leads obtained at the scene and later Thursday.
Bond and Detective Cpl. Edward Gonzalez are investigating the city’s 12th homicide of the year.
Anyone with information can call Bond at 881-4751 or Gonzalez at 881-4750.
