Jay Cutler admitted to ‘‘ups and downs’’ in the early going of training camp, but there were many more ups than downs Wednesday.
Cutler was sharp through most of his 11-on-11 and 7-on-7 drills, throwing four impressive touchdown passes.
He completed a long TD pass to Earl Bennett on a perfectly thrown deep ball that beat Chris Conte. Alshon Jeffery made a leaping catch to beat Major Wright over the middle. And Cutler capped off his day with two TDs in the red-zone drill: one to Brandon Marshall, who beat Charles Tillman, and the other to tight end Martellus Bennett.
‘‘It’s been going well,’’ Cutler said after practice during his weekly visit with the media. ‘‘There’s been ups and downs — that’s any training camp. Guys are learning the offense, and we’re moving along.’’
Cutler played most of the day with a patched-up offensive line. Jermon Bushrod missed his second practice with a calf injury. His replacement, Jonathan Scott, missed practice with knee soreness and was replaced by Eben Britton. Bushrod and Scott are day-to-day.
