A 15-year-old boy was found dead after his mother reported him missing early Sunday morning, after he failed to return from visiting a friend Saturday evening.
Vincent Canzoneri was not far from home when he struck a tree while driving his motorcycle. The accident occurred in brush off County Road 600W south of County Road 100 South, south of Lake Eliza, according to a Porter County Sheriff’s Department press release.
Vincent’s mother, Justynne Canzoneri, reported him missing at 3:56 a.m. Sunday when she returned home and her boyfriend told her Vince probably had ridden his dirt bike to a friend’s house, as he often did. He had not asked to stay the night and had been gone since about 8:30 p.m. Saturday, however, so she called police.
While checking trails Vincent was known to ride, Porter County Sheriff’s Officers found the crash scene at about 5:10 a.m. Vincent was dead, apparently from injuries from the crash.
Crash reconstructionists are investigating; preliminary findings are that a mechanical failure may have caused the crash, police said.
Vincent was a student at Boone Grove Middle School.
