Almost 10,000 homes lost power Friday night when a storm ripped through Northwest Indiana.
According to the NIPSCO website about 8:30 p.m., the most effected areas included Hammond, with 5,665 outages, followed by Highland with 2,016.
“The reports we’ve gotten in from the field suggest that the high winds knocked down some wires,” NIPSCO spokeswoman Kathleen Szot.
Weather reports indicate that Lake County and eastern parts of Porter County would be hit by the storm.
Wind gusts up to 50 mph were recorded in Wheatfield, Jasper County, according to the National Weather Service.
