GARY — A resident of Oak Knoll Renaissance apartments shot outside his home last month died Tuesday morning.
Tyrisce Calhoun, 33, was flown to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, Ill., after he was wounded several times on Aug. 8, Lt. Del Stout said.
Witnesses told police they heard gunfire about 1 a.m. One apartment was damaged by bullets, and when police arrived, they found Calhoun lying on the ground, bleeding heavily.
Investigators learned that a man wearing a black hooded sweatshirt approached Calhoun, who had been standing with a group of people, and shot him one time. When Calhoun collapsed, the gunman stood over the victim and fired several more times at close range. The others who had been near the victim had walked down the block where a car had crashed, police said.
It was the third time in recent years that Calhoun had been shot. He was wounded in the leg in April, 2007 while at the same apartments.
Then in June, 2011, he was shot again while attending the Sin City Desciples annual Cabaret.
Detective Cpl. Michael Barnes and Lake County Sgt. Ed Jenkins are investigating the city’s 39th homicide of the year. By this date in 2012, Gary had recorded 28 homicides.
