Some type of medical emergency is being blamed in the death early Saturday of a Chesterton man on the Borman Expressway in Hammond, police said.
Timothy Knight, 54, driving a Toyota Camry, was eastbound at about 1:45 a.m. just west of Calumet Avenue when he suddenly veered right and hit the outer barrier concrete wall, according to the state police. The Camry came to rest in the deceleration lane that goes to the Calumet Avenue exit ramps.
When police arrived, Knight was unconscious and not breathing after the crash. He was pronounced dead at The Community Hospital in Munster. An autopsy is scheduled.
The Camry sustained minor damage.
