A Crown Point man is planning a vacation and a new home after he won $1 million from a lottery scratch-off ticket.
Rene Mendoza collected the winnings Tuesday from the Hoosier Lottery. The money came from a $10 ticket he bought at the BP gas station at 5601 U.S. 30 in Schererville.
“I immediately thought of my family,” Mendoza said in a release. “I can do a lot of things.”
That includes buying a house for his children, ages 8 and 4, and taking them to Walt Disney World.
He could not be reached for comment Friday.
Indiana counties receive a portion of the profits from Hoosier Lottery games. Lake County received $19 million in 2011 for pension funds and for roads, which offset the county’s motor vehicle excise tax.
