Former Gary City Councilwoman Marilyn Krusas will get another six weeks before being sentenced for evading federal income taxes.

U.S. District Judge Joseph Van Bokkelen granted her request to move her sentencing, which had been set for Tuesday, to Dec. 12.

Krusas originally had been scheduled to be sentenced even sooner, but had the hearing continued to Tuesday because of medical procedures she was undergoing.

In her new request, Krusas said she is scheduled to have a final appointment in November that will provide an overall picture of her health. The request said Krusas expects information from that appointment will play a role in her sentencing.

Krusas pleaded guilty earlier this year to one count of income tax evasion for trying to hide an inheritance of $232,000 from the IRS when she owed them taxes; she had not filed an income tax return for 20 years.
