Former Gary City Councilwoman Marilyn Krusas wants to delay her sentencing again, citing more health exams.
Krusas pleaded guilty earlier this year to tax evasion, admitting she hid an inheritance of more than $200,000 from the government so that the IRS wouldn’t take it to pay taxes she owed after not filing her income tax returns for more than 20 years.
Krusas is scheduled to be sentenced at U.S. District Court in Hammond on Dec. 12, after the hearing was rescheduled because of several medical procedures. Her attorney, Scott King, says in the newest motion for a delay that she was told at her most recent medical appointment that she needs to see another specialist.
King says the prognosis from this will likely play a role in her sentencing and asks that the hearing be delayed until after the holidays so they have a better idea of her condition.
