A Crown Point man died Sunday afternoon after his car crashed into a tree just south of Winfield
Paul Plumer, 80, was pronounced dead at 3:05 p.m. at Saint Mary’s Hospital in Hobart from blunt force trauma, according to the Lake County Coroner’s Office.
Patti Van Til, spokeswoman for the Lake County Sheriff’s Department, said Plumer was driving his 1997 Buick LaSabre westbound on E. 117th Street around 2:25 p.m. Sunday when his car veered across the middle and off the road before striking a tree. His airbags did deploy, she said.
Van Til said police are still investigating the crash but that weather conditions did appear to be a factor. No one else was in the car, and no other cars were involved.
