A Griffith woman has been charged in Lake Superior Court with battery after her boyfriend told police she became angry that he was communicating with another woman on a social network.
Kenyatta Jisun Coats, 30, is charged with attacking her live-in boyfriend at their apartment at 1726 Mansard Blvd. after an argument ensued over his contact with another woman on Facebook. Coats punched the man in the head and face Friday before he pushed her off him, the probable cause affidavit states.
Coats then went into the back bedroom and threw a liquor bottle at the bedroom window. As the man tried to stop her, Coats picked up a butter knife and made several attempts to stab him, court records state.
The man had a small wound in the lower abdomen and several cuts and swelling around his left eye.
The man’s 14-year-old son was present for part of the incident.
Coats is charged with battery by means of a deadly weapon, punishable by two to eight years, and domestic battery, which carries a maximum three-year sentence.
