GARY — Fire Chief Teresa Everett won’t be the next chief in DeKalb County, Ga.

On Monday, DeKalb County officials selected Darnell Fullum, deputy fire chief in Fulton County, Ga., as their new chief, according to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

Everett and Fullum had been the two finalists for the post, which pays up to $150,000 a year.

They both appeared at a public forum last month.

DeKalb County Chief Executive Officer Lee May told the Journal-Constitution that Fullum, who’s been with the Fulton County fire department since 1995, would be a better fit.

Everett came to Gary last year from College Park, Ga.
