INDIANAPOLIS — A Merrillville man is about to be debt-free after winning $239,000 from the Hoosier Lottery.
Ellis Moore Jr. matched five of five numbers in the Jan. 16 Cash 5 drawing, a feat that earned him the game’s second-largest jackpot prize.
Moore claimed his winnings at Hoosier Lottery headquarters Tuesday, accompanied by his wife of 45 years, Myrtle.
With their winnings in the bank, the couple plan to write some big checks.
“All my bills are going to be paid off,” said Moore. “Every last one.”
While he was thrilled and excited as he waited for his check, the retiree wasn’t exactly surprised by his win.
“I always said I was going to win,” Moore said. “My wife didn’t believe me, but I always said it was going to happen.”
The Lake County man’s lucky ticket was a quick-pick he purchased at Luke’s at 7277 Taft St. in Merrillville.
