MERRILLVILLE — Firefighters from all four Merrillville stations, Crown Point and Schererville responded to a fire of suspicious origin Wednesday night in the 8000 block of Tyler Street.
“It’s under investigation. It looks suspicious,” Merrillville Fire Chief Ed Yerga said at the fire scene.
Yerga said no one was in the building at the time of the fire.
Yerga said a police officer noticed smoke coming from the building that houses three offices — 8004, 8006 and 8008 Tyler St. — and called the fire department about 7 p.m.
The building housed ScreenMe Printing and Tristar Vacuum Cleaning. A third office appeared to be for rent.
Most of the damage appeared to be in the interior of the two occupied offices and there appeared to be little exterior damage.
