Brothers Carlton Scott Smith, 22, and Christopher Cutrell Smith, 21, have been charged in Lake Superior Court with two counts of robbery and two counts of criminal confinement.
Carlton Smith, 22, and Christopher Smith, 21, are charged with robbing Howard Hawkins and Jonathan Portis as a party was winding down on Oct. 13 in the 4500 block of Harrison Street in Gary. The men told police three men came uninvited and announced the robbery. Taken was $500, a cell phone and a handgun belonging to one of the victims.
Witnesses identified Christopher Smith as the man who held two guns, including one with an extended clip, and Carlton Smith as the man who gathered the valuables from the party. The two victims later learned one of the party guests was friends with the brothers.
Carlton Smith has an attempted murder case filed in October set for jury trial before Judge Diane Ross Boswell on March 31.
Christopher Smith has a pending robbery and criminal confinement case pending before Boswell.
