MUNSTER — A contractor working for NIPSCO struck a natural gas line on the northwest side of Munster on Tuesday afternoon, causing service to be shut off to nearly two dozen customers for a couple hours.
NIPSCO public affairs manager Rick Calinski said the underground line near 30th and Jackson streets was struck around 3:15 p.m. and service was shut off for an estimated 23 customers around 4:40 p.m. Calinski said the contractor was working on a gas line improvement project.
Calinski said repair crews are still on scene as of 6 p.m. and they hope to have service restored sometime Tuesday evening. A stretch of 30th Street is closed to traffic between Monroe and Jackson streets until the repair is complete, Calinski said.
