VALPARAISO — A Union Township man pleaded guilty on Friday to the April 2013 hit-and-run accident that caused the death of a South Haven man.
Ryan Cash, 19, will get a sentence of a year on home detention and two more years on probation if Porter County Superior Judge William Alexa accepts his plea at a May 30 sentencing.
Cash hit 45-year-old Brian Hagerman at about 11:30 p.m. April 6, 2013, after a passenger in his vehicle smashed the windshield on a vehicle at Hagerman’s home.
After hearing the noise, people in the house came out to investigate. Cash, who had turned around and was coming toward the house, hit Hagerman who was in the roadway.
Hagerman suffered a head wound and died in April 10 at South Bend Memorial Hospital.
Cash, who left the scene after hitting Hagerman, told police they were looking for the home because his Hagerman’s son had damaged property of a female friend.
After a two-day manhunt, Cash’s mother turned him in.
