Lake Superior Court Judge Clarence Murray sentenced a Demotte man to seven years in prison for battery with a deadly weapon in a 2013 stabbing.
Kevin Michael Crawford, 41, admitted he stabbed Ezequiel F. Rodriguez from two to 10 times during a verbal altercation on June 16 in Lowell. During the argument, Crawford got the knife from his car and stabbed Rodriguez, who still is in rehabilitation and experiences pain. Crawford left the man where he fell, bleeding on the ground.
“The best defense is offense,” Crawford said at the time.
Defense attorney Roxanne Mendez Johnson argued for a four-year prison sentence, while deputy prosecutor Aleksandra Dimitrijevic cited Crawford’s extensive criminal history and the severity of the injuries the victim sustained in arguing for an aggravated sentence of seven years.
