Griffith police and child welfare authorities are investigating a “hit list” allegedly compiled by two fourth-grade pupils at Wadsworth Elementary School.
Griffith Police Chief Greg Mance confirmed the school and the Indiana Department of Child Services are investigating the source and nature of the letter, which a classroom teacher learned about on Friday and discussed with the children. School officials, including the school resource officer and counselor, were notified, and after speaking with the parents and pupils, the children were removed from school while the investigation continues.
In a letter dated Monday to Wadsworth parents, schools Supt. Peter Morikis said parents of the students on the list were notified.
Privacy laws prohibit Morikis from disclosing the ultimate consequences for the 10-year-olds once the investigation concludes.
