GARY — The woman shot to death at an Ambridge-Mann home where she had been living has been identified, a spokeswoman for the Lake County coroner said.

Diedra Toomer, 26, who had recently moved from Chicago, had been shot several times and died shortly after 4 a.m. Thursday at 339 Wilson St., officials said.

Her three children were taken into custody by child welfare workers, police said.

The two men described as “persons of interest” remained in custody Friday. They were detained Thursday as Detectives Alex Jones and Edward Jenkins questioned adults who were at the house when the shooting occurred. No additional information about the investigation was immediately available.
