Libertarians select Porter County man  as nominee

Updated: June 3, 2014 6:13AM

INDIANAPOLIS — The Indiana Libertarian Party has picked a Porter County man as its candidate for secretary of state in the November election.

Party officials say state convention delegates voted over the weekend to select Karl Tatgenhorst of Porter County for the nomination. The party says Tatgenhorst is a technology executive.

The secretary of state race is key for the Libertarian Party to continue having automatic ballot access for its nominees for offices across the state alongside Republican and Democratic candidates.

State law requires party candidates for secretary of state to receive at least 2 percent of the vote to maintain automatic ballot status. The Libertarian candidate in 2010 received almost 6 percent of the vote.
