GARY — The Redevelopment Commission agreed Tuesday to pick up the $817,000 tab for three advisers who helped form a development agreement at Gary/Chicago International Airport.
Interim airport director B.R. Lane asked the commission to approve the payment one day after the airport board agreed to pay only for $1.2 million in legal fees related to the partnership.
The airport board thought the chosen partner, Aviation Facilities Co. Inc., would pay the bills, but it balked at the request.
The advisers who will now have their bills paid are JClark Aviation, A.C. Advisory Inc., a financial consultant, and Hawthorne Strategy Group, a communications firm.
“We’re asking you to share in the costs,” Lane said. “Our position is this team brought a tremendous opportunity to us.”
Lane said the Redevelopment Commission and the airport board have an interlocal agreement, approved in October 2013, which supports the public/private partnership.
Redevelopment Department director Joe Van Dyk said the commission would use money in a tax increment finance fund to pay for the advisers.
